HUNTSVILLE,
AL — Participants
representing eight countries from around
the world attended Aviagen’s 41st Arbor
Acres Production Management School held
at the University of Alabama in Huntsville
from May 23-June 19. During the course,
students from Bulgaria, Brazil, Guatemala,
Egypt, Hungary, Pakistan, Thailand, and the
United States learned up-to-date information
in all areas of poultry science and its
practical application to managing successful
breeder and broiler operations.
Industry experts used labs, workshops,
and visual aids to teach a variety of subjects
including: Biology of the Chicken;
Hatchery Management; Flock Management;
Production Record Keeping; Nutrition and Feeding
Practices; Disease Control and
Sanitation; and Business Analysis.
Participants applied what they learned in the
classroom by taking field trips to breeder
and broiler facilities throughout Alabama.
“Our goal is to bring people
in the poultry industry together to learn more about all
aspects of poultry science so they can create
successful breeder and broiler operations,”
said Neal Scanlon, course manager for the
Arbor Acres Production Management
School. “Because the students come from
many different countries and climates, the
school provides a great opportunity to not
only learn from instructors, but also from
each other’s experiences.”
During the past 40 years, more than 800 men
and women from over 100
countries
have completed the Arbor Acres Production
Management School. This year, 15 participants
graduated from the school and
received certificates of completion. They
have returned to their countries to share a
deeper knowledge of the industry with colleagues.
“I took this course
20 years ago and it helped train me in all aspects of poultry science,
particularly in areas where I had little
experience,” said Scanlon. “Aviagen is
proud to host a school that helps people
become better production managers while
providing an opportunity to build great relationships
with others in the industry.”
