Illinois University in zoology and avian immunogenetics, respectively. In 2003, Macklin received his PhD in avian diseases from Auburn University. Over the last eight years, he has worked with the Alabama poultry industry and state diagnostic lab system on issues ranging from cellulitis and gangrenous dermatitis control to ways in improving litter quality. Additionally, he taught sections of courses dealing with immunology and molecular techniques. Since completion of his PhD degree, he has worked closely with Dr. Mike Eckman, and has taught a Poultry Science Journal Club at Auburn University.

assignment as a poultry health specialist in the department of poultry science at Auburn University.
     Macklin's primary responsibility will be in assisting in protecting the health status of poultry flocks throughout the state. To accomplish that goal he will be tasked with developing and delivering educational programs to all responsible parties; consulting in the areas of biosecurity, disease diagnosis, disease surveillance, feed additive selection, quality control measures, immunization, integrated health management, microbiological monitoring, and quality control measures; and presenting information dealing with infectious disease surveillance, etiology, epidemiology and control.
     Macklin has been in the department of poultry science since 1996, in a research associate/ research fellow position. He holds   BS and  MS degrees from Northern
     AUBURN UNIVERSITY— In December 2003, Dr. Mike Eckman, long-time poultry health specialist, retired from his Extension duties in the department of poultry science. Due to budget constraints, the search for a permanent replacement for this position has been delayed, but initiation of the search is expected to begin later this month. The Sixth Annual Auburn University Poultry Science Department Alumni, Friends and Recruiting BBQ will be held Saturday, October 9, 2004, Homecoming Day, at the North Auburn Picnic Area. The Auburn University Poultry Science Club will bar-beque chicken and host the event. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m., following the Auburn/Louisiana Tech game.
The fun-filled day will begin at 9:00 a.m. with Ag Roundup by the old red barn. Attendants will have the opportunity to sample many Alabama food commodities.
