Billy G. Meeks of Cullman has been elected to a three-year term on the Gold Kist board to represent the Northwest Alabama Division.
     Meeks became a Gold Kist mem-
management and leadership seminars at the University of Arkansas. A native of Cullman, Meeks is a member of the Alabama Farmers Federation, Cullman County and Alabama Cattleman’s Associations, American Angus Association, Alabama Poultry & Egg Association and the Cullman Chamber of Commerce. His civic activities include sponsoring and organizing fund-raising programs for Christmas Love, Victim’s Services, a home for abused children and women, Gideons, Trimble Fire Department and Sharon Grove United Methodist Church’s youth group.

     Since its kick-off in mid November, the 2003 AP&EA Membership Drive has been well on its way to success. Currently, 70 percent of all Alabama companies have returned an updated producer list. The forerunners of this year’s drive have been Wayne Farms, Troy/Union Springs and Enterprise, and Perdue Farms. Jack Sherwood and Wayne Farms have set an example by continuing to pay their grower’s membership dues and being the first to return and complete their producer and company supervisory membership. Recently joining the ranks is Perdue Farms, with the help of Peggy Carter, who has decided to sponsor their producers’ membership dues as well as their live production staff’s.
     Along with producer and company supervisory memberships being kicked off, V.I.P., allied, associate, government & education
turkey producer, egg producer and individual member ships have also begun. To date, most members have returned dues or membership responses in a prompt manner.      AP&EA feels positive that this year’s drive will be among the most successful in years due in large part, to the motivation and support of the poultry industry. In order to inspire compe tition among the companies, AP&EA is increas ing the number of prizes awarded for outstand ing performance in the membership drive Another item AP&EA will be providing is a membership update newsletter at the end of each month.
